I think spring has sprung here in the Fens. :o) Last week we heard a cuckoo for the first time this year, there's baby ducklings on the river, the hawthorns are in blossom (and smell delicious) and we have various birds making their homes in the nestboxes in our garden. Spring is my favourite time of year. ;o)

Is it just mean spirited of me to think Sainsbury's free Bag for Life gig today is crap?? So their Bags for Life are made of 100% recycled plastic but they're still bloody well making them aren't they?? If supermarkets didn't have trillions of plastic bags made then folk would have to take bags shopping wouldn't they? It's not rocket science! Not using plastic bags must be one of the easiest things for us to do for the environment, why can't just one of the major supermarkets lead the way on this?? *stamps foot* Oh, I remember why now, because despite their protestations at wanting to help on environmental issues they're too damned worried about their profits to cut loose and make a stand. It wouldn't do to earn a few billion less every year would it now? Ok, rant over! Oh, actually, I lied, I'm continuing the rant...if anyone needs more reasons not to shop at the devil's supermarket, how about the turtle issue?? Check it out: http://www.tortoisetrust.org/activities/tesco2.htm.

Other green news I have is that we've started using 100% biodegradable dog pooh bags. :o) Compared to a pack of 50 nappy sack bags for 29p they're quite expensive (£42.50 for 1000) but they're great! They're made from corn apparently and biodegrade in 40 days. If you're a dog owner, I'd urge you to give them a try!
